Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. (NYSE:BABA) is in the spotlight Thursday after Anthropic accused the Chinese tech giant of orchestrating a large-scale campaign to extract capabilities from its Claude AI models.

Anthropic accused Alibaba of trying to "illicitly extract Claude's capabilities." It said the Chinese company interacted with Claude millions of times through 25,000 fraudulent accounts.

In a letter obtained by The Wall Street Journal, Anthropic alleged that Alibaba and its AI unit conducted “the largest known distillation attack” on the company to date.
